Last Stand

Shoulders back and down,
Pretend that it could turn around,
Put on your very best smile,
And live for now a life of denial,
In the silence struggle against your tears,
In your sleep struggle to face your fears,
You told yourself the wound would heal,
Yet too weak to stand here you kneel,
Begging for the pain you no longer feel,
Because in its absence it becomes real,
You scream to stop the silence,
Avoiding truth you turn to violence,
Looking around you see red,
And you look at what you did,
You count till you get them all,
And with one last cut you begin to fall,
Red fades to black,
You enter death and never look back.
